City of Joburg Property Company (Pty) Ltd (JPC) was established in 2000 as part of the City’s iGoli 2002 re-engineering process and the “iGoli 2010 framework”. The iGoli 2010 framework established the basis for developing a long-term vision and strategy for the CoJ, which culminated in the acceptance of the Joburg 2030 strategy, Johannesburg’s blueprint for development over the next three decades.
In terms of the early iGoli 2002 strategies, JPC was established as an independent company mandated by its single shareholder (the CoJ) to carry out:
- Property development
- Alienation of the Greater Johannesburg Metropolitan Council properties
- Property management services
- All ancillary services to the above.
The main objective of the company was defined as being “to develop and manage Council owned properties for the purpose of maximising both social and commercial opportunities for the Council in the short and longer term.”
